Gary B. Killough was born in 1942 during the War. His father being drafted shortly after his birth was in the Navy and so had to get him into a sailor uniform. In 1960 Gary volunteered for service in the Army, and was trained at Ft. Jackson, SC, Directly after training he was shipped out to Germany, where he was a semi-truck driver while there for two and one half years. Gary was on duty in Germany when the Berlin Wall was constructed. On full alert ready for what was going to happen. He was in Berlin once before the wall was built and once after. Quite an experience to travel through one hundred miles of Communist Territory to get to Berlin. While in Germany Gary was again on full alert and ready to go again when the Cuban Blockade was setup, squeaked by again. The Vietnam " Police Action" had now begun but he was close to being released form the Army and did not have to go again. Dodged the bullet again.
.
After being out of the Army for 19 years Gary decide to go into the Active Army  Reserve and again served from 1982 until 1986. While in the reserves he was a driver of semi trucks once again. promoted to Specialist 5th class. Gary went to NCO school and was promoted to Staff Sergeant (E-6) and given the position of squad leader. Gary moved into the office and took over the job of Training NCO. While serving in the reserves he went to Belgium on a three week tour known as "Reforger 86" This was a joint European Allied Exercise. His job here was coordinating and dispatching trucks out on their runs throughout the region, drawing strip maps to their detestations. Gary received an Army Commendation Metal for his efforts here. The company Gary was in would later go to Desert Storm for six months, again he had gotten out before that happened. Many close calls but no action.
