My grandfather was a man of humble means but, a man full of adventure and caring for all people. Jim Williams worked in local cotton mills most of his life, from the time he was eight or nine years old. I remember stories of his experiences. I lived with him and my grandmother when I was sixteen. He loved little children, every payday he would get a pocket full of nickels and as he walked home from work the children would meet him for their expected nickel or penny if that's all he had. He loved baseball (Charlotte Hornets) and if he couldn't go to a game he would lean over the counter in the kitchen, by the radio, with a can of sardines and with crackers to interact in an boisterous manner to every play. He loved to fish and to ride through the country looking for poke salad. I spent quite a lot of time with him and I miss him very much.
