Evelyn Loraine Williams

***

Evelyn has been a hard working good homemaker. Working for Carolina Textile Engravers she engraved copper plated printing rolls by hand on the night shift, working for the Salvation Army in their retail store, She shuttled voters to the polls on election day for extra money, at one time she was a school crossing guard on the corner where the old Killo Exterminator office was on Independence Blvd. Evelyn raised six children on a shoestring budget and has been the glue that held everyone together. My father and mother played music together in their younger days, someone was at our house to play music almost every weekend. Mama played a Martin flat top guitar and a steel guitar, daddy played a fiddle. Once while living in Portsmouth Va. they played with a group on a local radio station. Mama went by the name of the Pan American Sweetheart because of her ability to finger pick Spanish music on the Martin guitar. and daddy was called Tiny, I guess because you wondered how he could play that fiddle with those big hands he had. There's not enough space here to recall all of the fond memories I have of my mother. Bye the way Doctor Gallant (our family doctor) brought both my mother and me in to this world at birth.                 by son Gary Burnett Killough
