Steve's super cruiser
.

In our family as far as I know Steve Killough was the first to get involved with flying. His Piper Super Cruiser
is shown at right. Steve was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in the 1950's. He also did some crop dusting,
I remember seeing one of his planes that was specially designed by Piper for crop dusting.

Pioneers of aviation is what our relatives were. Good ole country boys that liked to fly. Farmers and mechanics with vision and enthusiasm for adventure. They gathered in the afternoons after work, all day Saturday from the dampth of dew until the dark of  evening, and after church on Sundays. Saturday was a day of conversation, upgrades and repairs. Their clothes were "come to work clothes" Sundays were days of gathering to fly, the clothes were still casual but not work clothes. People from neighboring areas would come over after church to watch the planes take off and land, and maybe the  daring would get to take a ride. These pictures were taken at Spurgen Rowell's farm in Hemby Bridge, NC

A nostalgic look at the past, we were simple but knew no limits
