| His
footsteps are hard to follow but a goal to pursue. Only now do I realize
how much he taught me simply by the way he lived. He loved life, his
family, his friends, and his God. More valuable than goal were these
things he gave. A stranger he never met. During his early years he worked
at various retail businesses: bread salesman, retail grocery stand,
retailing tomatoes hauled from Florida, and farming on the side. About
1948 he started the Killo Exterminating Company and remained there until
his death in 1970. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher in the Pleasant
Plains Baptist Church, Matthews, NC, and was on the Indian Trail, NC
school board for several years. He was a Mason and a Shriner. The large
number of people who attended his funeral were a testimony to his life. My
dad and I were standing and talking to each other when he fell dead of a
heart attack at my feet. It was an experience I shall never forget. I
thank God for the Dad that He chose for me. ( by son Ralph Arnold Killough) |
