| Shortly after this photo was taken my father was sent to the Philippines to fight in the Battle of Leyte ( World War ll ). His ship the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) was sunk in that battle(25 Oct. '44). My father Archie Wallace Killough was on the water for 52 hrs with Japanese planes strafing and sharks attacking the troops in the water, there were to many men in the water for the number of life rafts available, so the men had to take turns on the rafts.
