| Both John Walter and Cora were previously married, Cora had four children by her marriage to William Conder. Her husband and a four year old son died the same week with fever. Cora's father, Harmon Benson King (1843-1923) was a bugler in the Confederate Army, joining along with his father. He was later the pastor of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church near Matthews, NC. Her mother, Sarah Louisa Secrest (1848-1926) was the daughter of Samuel T. Secrest and granddaughter of Uriah Secrest who lived to be 105 . The Secrest had received a large land grant from the Lords Proprietor. It was located between Matthews and Monroe, NC. |
